My Wandering Mind (Insomnia)

My Wandering Mind (Insomnia)

A Poem by CreativeCookie
"

A poem I came up with one night when losing the battle against insomnia. I thought it would gain me some ground, it didn't, I still lost.

"

Oh, why doth my wandering mind keep it's vigil yet at this

            murderous hour?

Winding pathways my imagination must tread it creates to my

            Despair.

Causing me to pursue wretched demons as well as rescue maidens

            fair.

Images flood my wakeful mind, not heeding my pleas for rest.

Battle scenes and romance walk hand in hand this night.

Wilst I groan in my dejection, knowing I shall not gain respite.

My tired self must wonder why it's denied to walk along the

           peaceful paths of dreams.

While instead it's forced to wander among other, wakeful things

by the pale, cool light of the moon's silvery beams.

I feel the anguish of the warrior as the cold blade bites.

The venom of the words in which the rival fills with spite.

The bitter-sweet joy of victory, the battle finally o're.

The tears and sadness of a lass, her caring lover lost.

As well as the hero's dreadful knowledge of a decision's deadly

           cost.

I feel the wounded's death-rattle as if it were mine own.

The joy of life washes over me as the sun rises o're a new-found

           home.

A wanderer's soul's excitment, eager to leave and roam.

It isn't finished, but I'll add to it another night when I'm losing the battle against insomnia (Which is quite often, so this ought to be completed soon) Anyways, hope you enjoy! PLEASE tear me down and nit-pick, I'm serious.

Loved this piece!! As a fellow wandering mind, I can appreciate (only too well!) the torment of the small hours when it just won't stop chattering and rambling away...:)
You've created some really vivid imagery here....."I feel the anguish of the warrior as the cold blade bites..." this was one of my favourite...
and then the final line.....
Good to know i'm not alone too....:)

The visual depictions in this poem kinda remind me of Braveheart. I like the style you used to write it, with the accented old style words. It added a wonderful affect. It's a poem that could stand as it is right now, or continue, like an ongoing poetic tale of the legendary hero type. =) I liked it!
