What's Your Story

What's Your Story

A Poem by Caleb

What's Your Story?

Drifting through infinity on a non-stop flight to nowhere
first class
Speeding through a desert kicking up sand everywhere I go
finding nothing underneath
Creating momentum, friction, energy, power
nice little concoction
Becoming the accelerator with a mischievously blind fascination of not knowing
fusion
Witnessing firsthand, the destruction and birth of time and space
nothing more, nothing less
From the corner of my eye i spy a twinkle in the sky in the distant horizon
curiosity
It killed the cat but f**k it
i'm invincible
With the greatest of speed, as always, catching up to the dull shimmer of the unknown
first glimpse
Another like me, but different
still life decay
Dirty, worn, ravaged, standing the test of time
but so young
"So what's your story?"
Silence, but full of expression and knowledge
no need for words
Turning away to continue the journey to nowhere
one last look
That's all it took for the destruction and birth of time and space in my book
new chapter

Full speed ahead with maximum momentum
times two
Hoping it can keep up but extinguishing all doubt
without breaking a sweat
Consequently, hoping i can keep up with this anomaly
masked in dirt and grime and war-waged time
still smiling
Head to head toe to toe from the beginning
never slowing down
I now see why so dirty and notice a little on me
a little dirt never hurt anyone
Hurdling through infinity at such great speeds, the very essence of existence hangs in the balance
neither backing down
You saw the wall in front of you and ran even faster, leaving me in your dust
crash
Catching up to the moment planned the whole time
manipulation
Crawling with little life, even less hope, no shimmer
completely covered in filth
As fast as you came, you left, leaving a multitude of unanswered questions
i guess i'll never know
Remembering that one last look and realizing it's a sad ending of another chapter in my book
new chapter

Picking myself up brushing off the dirt
did the best i could
Trudging down the path
self chosen
Making it to the top of the mountain with infinity at my fingertips
delightfully unfulfilling
You were constantly sitting on the edge of the cliff of my mind
missing
Deja Vu slapping me upside the head into a senseless frenzy
impossible
There you were again, as if you never left
same smile
No longer able to look through your eyes but at them
shinier than before
The once known dull shimmer as i remember you to be has been cleaned and polished
worthy of royalty
An unstoppable force growing more as time inevitably progresses
no limits applied
Covered in dirt and grime and time i take my place
starting line
"One last race for old times sake?"
"go!"
For one last time, the heavens shook greater and the gates of hell came crumbling down
it's time
Face to face our eyes embrace with nothing but love
the only thing real
A wink in your eye, a smirk of a smile and snap of a finger
gone
Slowing down, trying to catch my breath, dusting myself off
pointless
Looking at you running off into the horizon with more speed imaginable
waving
A tear swelling, starting it's own pace down the side of my face
acceptance
I'm glad that one of us was able to finish the race to conclude the last chapter in my book
the end
