Night Puddles

Night Puddles

A Poem by Cande

She, who dreams of the taste of his lips

The safety behind his kisses

And the sound of his voice

The joy behind his laughter

Wakes up to a wet pillow

Memories flooded her thoughts

While she vulnerably gave in to the night

Unspoken words and forgotten feelings

Spilled through the cracks of her broken heart

Traces of their lost love left behind

The sheets witnessed what anyone else ever has

She is drowning in her own mind

Let the water escape the demons sailing her veins

By opening her eyes

And hearing the sobs of the clouds on the outside

Someone knocks: the rain

Who is breaking just like her

As leaves, promises falls from the trees

As the sun, nostalgia illuminates the sky

As flowers, bittersweet memories bloom from her skull

As a frozen lake, with every step he takes her heart breaks

But now it rains.

Every drop shatters once it reaches the floor

She tries but her hands are too weak to catch them all

Waters run through her fingers

As blood run through his

He also tried

But the softest parts of her,

On his hands died.

He let her go.

Hello, Cande, and welcome!
Your lovely piece hit a familiar chord in my heart; I feel for you. Even though your heart may be broken, it's not unpleasant, for me anyhow, to remember the past. After decades, it gets less painful and more sweetly nostalgic.
Really, it does.
Probably doesn't help much now, but hang in there.
Unless this is a piece of fiction, in which case, very well done! I believe you.
