American Struggle

American Struggle

A Poem by Captain Ugly
"

Honest poetry.

"

American Struggle

Over-spun screws and fading tattoos

And beer spilled on clinging undershirts.

Piled up bills and stale generic pills,

By the handful, because everything hurts!

"Tyranny Lurks"

Sins of aching necessity,

Halos of broom-swept gravel and dust,

American dreams split at seams,

Compounded by staunch wanderlust.

"In God we trust."

Sort the vespers of mighty ancestors:

Warriors and farmers and savage kings.

Time’s waves have cruel ways of wearing away

Greatness, and countless other sweet things.

"Let freedom ring!"

Masks of raging conformity erode;

Between Heaven and Hell, all things rust.

Working folks fade and slowly shrink away,

On shattered and whole’s common cusp!

“Life’s crumbs and crust.”

I enoyed this piece. You came in strong! Love this:

Over-spun screws and fading tattoos
And beer spilled on clinging undershirts.
Piled up bills and stale generic pills,
By the handful, because everything hurts!

So I'm not American, so I don't really know what happens there but this is awesome, especially the quotes. xD.
