Heartbreak Hill

Heartbreak Hill

A Poem by Caradoc
"

I always find myself coming back here, to the foot of the hill where grows the Tree where Two Lovers Lay

"
Once more I find myself
Alone on Heartbreak Hill
The ghosts of old loves
Haunting me still
I suppose I am Cursed
To always return
To the Flames
That once burned me
Even so I wonder, if I had been more brave
If I had been a better man
Would I be happy now
With one of those burning fires
That entranced me so?
Would any of them have brought me joy?
Or the fairytale I have always dreamed of?
At this juncture I fear not, for I have learned
A bitter truth;
The root of the woe that dogs my steps
Has always been
Me
And no amount of fanciful words
Or clever turns of prose will
Change the fact that I have ever been
The worst part of Me
And that all who have ever dared
To show me love
Have ended up the poorer for it
So I wish to say Goodbye
To you who have loved me
To you who may have have harbored some
Thought of me in the depths of Elseness
Or otherwise; goodbye, good luck, and godspeed
You avoided a tale most tragic
By turning away from What Could Have Been
I don’t know when or how
But my tale will come to an End
And when it eventually does
I think I will smile
For then I will
Finally
Be free…
