Scars

Scars

A Poem by Carl

A scar to hide

What we really feel

A scar that takes

Forever to heal

A scar that shows

That no one cares

A scar is revealed

As the skin tears

A scar that is left

By an angry word

When a demeaning

Insult is heard

Silence reamins

After they've fled

"It was just a joke

I didn't mean what i said"

The scar that is on

A young girl's face

Shows that this world

Is such a cruel place

The marks and the bruising

Was all she'd known

As she wears the scars

From a place called home

A scar that is etched

On the face of a nation

As again we are raising

A lost generation

Who hurt and maim

With a gun or a knife

The scars run deep

But I guess that's life

A scar that now speaks

On how life has been

No one will notice

A blemish on skin

A scar that is opened

Time after time

The scar we carry

As a visible sign

The scars that I carried

That the world didn't see

Were rooted and deep

Part of me

These scars were removed

True feelings revealed

No scars on me

Totally healed

This piece has an enormous depth, and it carries along a very deep wound in the soul. Your write says much more than the few words it contains. It's a fabulous job, when the reader pictures scenes and feels the hurt while reading, and you did perfectly here.

Oh yes you are so right - scars on the soul need much more than a simple "I'm sorry ...", and it needs people who really care, to see the invisible scars in the first place. There'd be so much to say about this topic so I better not start.

The last paragraph of course is my favorite for the happy ending.
Great work!

Wonderfully written, with such poignant and resonating stanzas. The flow is steady and stable, and the sentiments are heartbreaking and true. Brilliantly done.

Emotional and physical scars cut so deep that it seems they will never go away. I now see scars as a symbol of strength, as I do in this poem.

Awsome as usual...I like how you took different aspects of a scar and wrote about each of them and their effects.
