Splinter Girl

Splinter Girl

A Poem by Carl

I left a piece of me

There that day

What it was

Who can say

As I turned to go

I hoped all would be well

"Nice to meet you

Splinter Girl"

I left a piece of me

As they stood in line

Faces cast down

That once used to shine

So many problems

And no one to tell

"Nice to meet you

Splinter Girl"

I left a piece of me

In the past

I hoped and prayed

That this wouldn't last

Shrapnel and trenches

Mortar and shell

"Nice to meet you

Splinter Girl"

I left a piece of me

At the futures dawn

Faces look skyward

To greet the morn

Anticipation

Casting a spell

"Nice to meet you

Splinter Girl"

I left a piece of me

In the addicts cry

Face down in the door way

And not knowing why

I'll pick up the pieces

When you buy what they sell

"Nice to meet you

Splinter Girl"

I left a piece of me

In the hearts of the young

Who look for a sign

When their time has come

Poets and Leaders

Who now can tell

"Nice to meet you

Splinter Girl"

I left a piece of me

On your street today

The addict and veteran

Your face turns away

Your arrogance and prejudice

I know all to well

For I've met you too

I'm Splinter Girl

The last stanza really hit me, it was like and emotional whirlpool then BANG! A great write with good use of repetition throughout.
