Time Gentlemen Please

Time Gentlemen Please

A Poem by Carl

Jimmy sinks the black

To even the score

At the bar Lucy asks

"Have you been here before"?

In the corner a Poet

Writes all that she sees

As the bar tender calls

"Time gentlemen please"

Framed pictures tell

Of a glourious past

At a table a couple

Who are not meant to last

Fergie sings "Where is the love"?

As she fronts the Peas

As the bar tender calls

"Time gentlemen please"

Joe will take your money

In varying ways

As Bruce sings of cars

And of "Glory Days"

And Marilyn's picture

Will seductively tease

As the bar tender calls

"Time gentlemen please"

"We've had Elvis and Jimmi

Drinking in here

We've had heart breakers coin takers

As the drinks disappear

We've had Merchants and Pirates

Who have sailed the seas

Yes I've seen them all

Time gentlemen please"

In another corner Tommy

Reads the history of the town

Wayne winks a hustler's wink

As the black ball goes down

And Frankie now sings

With a consummate ease

As the bar tender calls

"Time gentlemen please"

At the bar Sadie stands

And hums a tune

Eyeliner lip gloss

And her hair all strewn

"Southern Comfort Jack Daniels

Hey Joe pay for these"

As the bar tender calls

"Time gentlemen please"

He watches Sadie and Joe

Take their leave

A very good night

He's lead to believe

And as Frankie fades

Singing the last line

Thank you for your custom

Gentlemen Time

Great description of a typical evening at the pub. You draw the characters very well.

This just had such a beautiful flow to it. It is very much a piece that tells a story... as generally i prefer a strong emotional reaction to a story i was temped to pass it up, but somehow you've managed to capture a lot of emotion which is such a hard thing to do in that style of writing. For no way i can really define, this poem was really moving. Keep it up.
