The Hounds of Hell

The Hounds of Hell

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

I walk alone

along a midnight beach

with none but the stars as my friends

I walk alone

Into tomorrow’s world

with no one my soul to defend

As the stars disappear into the blackened sky

the hounds of hell come out to play

they stealthily move in on my tortured soul

seems I have become their prey

They hunt me down with such skill and ease

they rip my heart to shreds

tear into my soul piece by piece

until there really isn’t much left

Then with a gleeful snicker

and the howl of the kill

they run as one into the dark of the night

boasting of the destruction that they have caused

to one so innocent and full of the light

"I walk alone

with none but the stars as my friends" Carolann xD i'm so excited to read this, Again the journey begins right from the start :D I can picture myself on a beach with white sand in between my toes and the only light is that from the moon :) then to figure out it's all but me dreaming of a better place to escape the memories of life's dark embrace.
I love that these hounds can be perceived as so many things, negative emotions, ruthless attacks by cynical beings. I love your creativeness you've used to described how someone who is so simple and calm can fall prey to attack.
Great write. 100/100

I like the journey you took me with you in the poem. The hounds of hell can destroy hope and innocent. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

Thanks so much. :)
This is the kind of poem that really deals with reality's harshness to man and I kind of figure out that people who deserve such happy endings lead up to the opposite. Really amazing work!

Lol true :)
With loneliness comes a feeling of vulnerability. I'm getting that the night for you is lonely and it is a time when you are easily tempted to do bad things, hence the hounds of hell chasing you down, creeping up on you, you are vulnerable. Though we have to try not to be vulnerable at our weakest points, we have to try and remain strong so we don't attract these "hounds of hell". Good job, there is great meaning behind the few words presented to us on this page

Hmm .. you are lonely.... I refer to the stars sometimes in my prose stuff....I'm struggling for words (what?)... the gimlet eyes of the night...

You speak of pain......and of a very dark view of things beautiful.. perhaps prose would be something you could look at.. this is my first look at your stuff.. I'm not an academic...

Great contrast between light and darkness, innocence and evil. Loved it!
