Why do we write story and poetry?

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Old wise saying. "Nothing good to say. Say nothing."

"
Poetry, my dear friends,
is a sacred incarnation of a smile.
Poetry is a sigh that dries the tears.
Poetry is a spirit who dwells in the soul,
who nourishment is the heart,
who wine is affection.
Poetry that comes not in this form is a false messiah.
                   Kahlil Gibran.

                  Perfection

Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry,
The philosophy which does not make me laugh
and the greatness which does not bow before children.
                      Kahlil Gibran

Why do we write poetry and story?

Kahlil Gibran expressed the real reasons for writing above.

Poetry and story is not to offend.

It can teach, motivate and make you cry or laugh.

Be graceful for writer's who shared their words and thoughts.

Never be negative in public.

Send a personal e-mail with a offer of assistance.

Poetry can dance on a page.

Can make us envision beauty or pain.

May take us to a new world of fantasy or a journey into the past.

There is no perfect Poet or Writer.

We must find a proper edge of understanding with the reader.

Words should be a pleasure to read. Not a challenge.

We need a billion new writer's and Poet's.

People who see and understand our world.

A person who tried to understand history, love and modern times.

People need hope and dreams.

Not sadness and naysayers.

Better to be a kind teacher than looking for weaknesses in our things.

Thank you Writer's Cafe for reading my poetry and story.

Many had assisted a old man.

Remember never too old to learn.

A wise person tried to learn something new dally.

Kindness and love lead to good places and good friendship.

                          Thank you.

For me poetry is about expressing something inside that needs to come out...and when I read the poetry of others, then it is about trying to connect. We are all so different... Now I try to see the world through the eyes of another. How do we critique that?

Well spoken, Coyote

True words, my friend. We all write for our own reasons, and while some people have a more educated or honed craft, that does not make the "beginners' any less worthy or amazing in their own rights. I try to go in any review with as much positivity as I possibly can, because I did not get that when I was starting out and I think it stifled my creativity for a long while. Well written.

What a beautiful message, Coyote. I think constructive criticism is great for a poet, helps a poet to hone in on his/her work. Nasty criticism is a waste. It may pump up the criticizer, but it does nothing to help the soul of the poet. I accept all criticism though because even the nasty ones may not know how to be nice and gentle. Perhaps that is just their way. You make some excellent points in this piece and I am grateful for the time to come here and meditate upon your words.

I want to echo and expand on what our friend Horizon has already stated. Why would anyone want to denigrate the messenger of his own soul? Seems rather cruel, but I understand there is a click that engages in just that. I for one would never criticize anyones form of artistic expression; hard enough exposing the bits and pieces of ones self and we should honor that, encourage that. Not break them down. You wrote: ''Better to be a kind teacher than looking for weaknesses in our things.'' I believe that is the best way to approach one another.

Well done, Coyote

i believe that if all the world embraced poetry, learned that it is all poetry...no matter how unpolished...we would be a more sentient and peaceful race. everyone has something to say...i could say that i hate rap music, but the bottom line is...it is poetry. understanding and tolerance and acceptance of things outside our own scope...that is poetry. trust Coyote to come up with this wonderful infusion. awesome....
