Don't give-up

Don't give-up

                               Don't give-up

I changed face, I changed cities and played the jester well.

I believed the stories in the wind, I believed in the voices of the traitors who forsaken my generation.

I fought ghost for cold-hearten government who cannot be forgiven. In hell, men, who killed for profit shall pay.

I remember holding my 30-30 and feeling empty. The phone rung and dear Grandmother Beulah told me. We need and love you my baby. Please don't give-up.

I was saved often and I tried to save people who felt empty and alone.

Once I wanted to be the king of the forest. I toil and toil for big companies, made ungraceful men rich and forgot. I needed the mercy of love near.

I told the young, you must ask yourself. How will you die? Did you die standing for love, for kindness, were you kind to nature and the people near.

Careless wings, we do have.

One day we share the parting glass. Stand before our god and be asked. Did you do the best you could?

I have outlived the many I have known and I have learn.

Don't give-up.

All of us have reasons to be upon the earth, maybe caretakers of others, maybe mentors to the children, maybe we are here to dance upon kind earth.

Just, do our best.

Today I know. Talk less, listen more. Dance and sing more, work less. Tell the people you loved. You love them every chance you get. Our mentors will leave us and we must fill the shoes of great people.

Life should be simple. Listen, talk less and pay attention to the people near. If someone is falling fast and they can't get-up.

We must help them-up and tell them. Please don't give-up. I need you my friend, alive and well.

beautiful honest plea ..really appreciate your "voice" in this Coyote Man ... you touch the despair of our Viet Nam Vets to a "T" ... though anyone suffering depression has found empathy in this poem .. this line:
"Careless wings, we do have." i read like an aside ... i made me take note .. to listen much is wisdom of the ages ..one that has to be practiced .. great stuff here sir! i hope if this is personal for you that whoever it is is doing better today ... maybe read your poem and has taken heart

Thank you dear bela.
This might be the most lyrical way a person could make such a political statement! I love that you do not go into "rant" mode anywhere, but instead you stay in the lilting tones of understanding & showing the humanity of each situation (no matter how much we may not like a situation). You give an authentic word painting of how it can feel as we trudge along thru life's ups & downs. Good details to show times when one feels like giving up. Yet your inspiring title refrain rings loud & clear (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you dear Margie. Like you did. We must make our life better.
Beautiful.

We do tend to give up on hope, but by not giving up there will come a day where we can proudly say we are glad to be here alive and well. This poem gives strength and hope for that day to come.

Well done and thank you for sharing.

The opening line in this melancholy but uplifting piece is a head turner. The protagonist sets out that despite so much challenge in life he has endured and is focussed on being a positive influence and a solid humanatarian.

so many have given up...and they need empathy, they need voices of poets like you to let them know that they are not just forgotten or glossed over, that they do matter to many...
