Do You Remember

Do You Remember

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

Do you remember what you did to me

all those years ago

When you penetrated me with your vileness

against my will

left me in the bushes

broken and lost

a pretty girl in a pink dress

who is now an empty shell

Do you remember

how you just walked away

leaving me in the blackness of the night

unable to move

laying alone in the dirt

like a broken doll

carelessly thrown away by a perpetual child

I have been forever lost in the darkness

of your evil deed

Your semen that you forced inside of me

has left a stain on my soul

and no matter how much I wash

It just won’t go

Do you remember this

faceless man

Do you think of those days

where you caused so much pain

or is your life now a joy

Do you have a wife

a girl and a boy

Do you think of me

when you make love to her

Think of the time you took one against her will

when you broke a little girl

sent her on a downwards spiral

to the darkness of a man made hell

I hope you think of me some time

That the light of remembrance

fills your mind

that visions of me haunt your days

that one day your soul

will have to pay

I am so sorry Carolann...Gods love upon you my dear. I can't even begin to imagine what that's like to live with, but I do know one thing...You have become, in spite of this, a loving, and very beautiful woman with a heart of gold. You will always have my love and respect.

The strong feelings expressed in this poem are very much descriptive of the events that happened in the girl's past. The outcry, tears, pain and sadness are well-versed and beautifully written in a consistent flow. There is the underlying moral lesson and principle held by the poem. Good work!

"Do you remember this
faceless man
Do you think of those days
where you caused so much pain
or is your life now a joy
Do you have a wife
a girl and a boy" Wow Carolann, this is so striking and well written.

This is heartbreaking and yet again so common, humans are suppose to be empathetic and yet we're the most sinister dastardly creatures that roam this planet. I believe in Karma because i've been at the wrong end of her kiss and it stings and forever imprints the venom of guilt and misfortune. I don't know you personally, we haven't ever had a 1to1 conversation either. But through your writings I know what a strong, grounded and loving person you are. You've encountered a number of obstacles in life, sometimes like us writers you even escape them through our own fantasy world but you've managed to make reality beautiful too by just being you and moving on and never stopping. Continue to be positive and strong you're a source of inspiration to all the youth on this site, they should read your work and reflect. I couldn't agree more with the gentleman's comment above mine, Mr Night says it so well you'll always have our love and respect on this site.

As far as the structure of the poem, it's perfect. Has such stability and strength in it's words. Can make a Spartan want to rush home and hug his wife and children and tell them how much he appreciates them.

I just, there are no words for how sorry I am Carolann. it's such a terrible thing to force yourself onto someone, especially if it was a child.
It's terrible and wrong and disgusting. I hope writing this helped you get some of it out of your mind, I know it'll never fully be gone.
Even with the topic/subject/theme of this writing, it's a beautiful piece. Great job. and again, I'm so sorry :(

takes a lot of courage to write something so personal and so harrowing...I doubt it lessened your pain, but I hope it has helped you in some way...Very brave indeed..

Thank you so much.
A powerful and sad poem. I believe people who can rape. Feel nothing. Good example was the Preacher down South who kill over 20 prostitutes in his spare time and had no guilt. Should be longest and hardest penalty for them. Thank you for sharing the amazing poem.

Thank you and yes I agree.
Wow, powerful stuff. I am without words to explain how I feel, it's a mix of emotion, mostly shock and sorrow. Thanks for posting, very brave of you.
