Human

Human

A Poem by Blackbird
"

Ahem! Credit, please.

"

I wouldn't be good-looking, if I were to stop bathing.

I wouldn’t smell worthy, if it wasn’t for the hygiene industry.

Take away my clothes and you’ll see me for what I am, for no part of me is made of cloth.

I am sweat, oil, and mucus; sticky, slimy, gross.

Through and through.

But, I can lie.

I’ll convince myself I’m not the things that make me up, and I’ll never meet the me that’s real; animal; mammalia; homo sapien.

When I heard those words for the first time, I didn’t believe in them. I am not an animal, I am not mammalian, I am not a homo sapien. I am the word that doesn't belong on this list.

I am human.

They are not the same.
