Her [Cutting] Addiction

Her [Cutting] Addiction

A Poem by Kristee

Hello little girl,
Remember me?
Of course you do, how could you not?
We've been through so much together.

I remember you were scared to meet me at first.
You had every right to be.
You were so young and innocent.
But one night, for some unknown reason, you came to me.
And I took you.

First times.
They're always a little chaotic, confusing.
And you were scared to come back.
Months later though, when you had no one to go to, I was there.
That might not have been the best thing, but I didn't try and stop you.

I can't help what I am.
I'm powerful.
I'm haunting.
I'm your own little piece of Hell.
I'm tempting.
And I'm always here.

That's right, always.
You thought you had gotten rid of me, but you were wrong.
I've been here all this time, lurking underneath your skin, waiting for the right moment--the perfect time to make my move.

I admit, you were a fighter.
A good one.
I lost hold of you there for a while.
You had gained some strength, enough to fight me back.
But strength isn't forever.
I saw it all, the heartbreak, the losses, the attempt at getting it all back.
The failure.
And then, the exhaustion.  You were so weak from fighting to stay about it all.
And I knew my perfect moment had come.

I took you again.
You were shocked.
You were panicked.
But that's not my problem.

I know you hate me.
You have every reason to.
I broke you.
I scarred you.

Little girl, I'm not easy to get rid of.
Now you know.
You're going to have to do a lot more to lose me.
Because I promise you, I will do anything I can to keep you.

You're my prisoner.
My slave.
Mine.

This was a personification poem I wrote about a year ago as an assignment for my Creative Writing class. (Pretty much I'm personifying my addiction to cutting.)

Hate it. Love it. Can't get away from it. Just like you, I suppose. I'm glad I don't really know what you're talking about. But the personification, the technical aspect, is perfect. Little touches make all the difference, like the colour of the text... it's perfect. Utterly horrible, terrible, but truly brilliant.

It seems a good personification of an addiction, or any addiction, there is not a lot of more ways to

describe it!

Interesting. I felt it. I kicked a destructive habit or twelve and this could apply to any of them. That voice of addiction really tears at me. Very powerful piece.

This is extremely well penned. I love the character you've given it. It fits so perfectly. I love the journey; from beginning to fighting to going back...This hits very close to home. And it's referral to her as "Little girl", I couldn't have imagined it otherwise

Thanks for sharing..
