Graduation 2009

Graduation 2009

A Poem by Charlie Hawthorne
"

A little cheesy, I know :)

"

Enter September 2005
Forced off the board, pushed into a dive.

Little fish in a big pond.
Seniors were looked up to, some even fawned.

Some days left you a mess,
And some days were effortless

Is that even possible?
In a world full of possibilities, our pencils were dull

For that final exam.
Some studied so hard, other couldn't give a damn.

Then there were those Friday night lights
And school yard fist fights.

Maybe football wasn't your thing,
Maybe it was volleyball, soccer, tennis, or maybe you liked to sing.

Maybe your calling was the stage.
Maybe you preferred to hold the book and turn the page.

It didn't really matter who you were, what you wanted, or where you went.
High School is about living in and for the moment.

Summer showed up rather quickly,
And summer dreams we believed readily.

A quick break until Sophomore year.
Wise fools they say, check the reflection in the mirror

Of the camera, where memories are eternalized.
And aspirations are realized.

More at home on the dance floor.
The party ends to soon, leaves you asking for more.

Was it just me, or did the days seem to go faster?
As we get older memories began to bend and blur.

Another year gone.
Finally the status of an upperclassmen.

We most certainly had school spirit.
Our T-Shirts could prove it.

Our ladies were the '09 Dimes.
Our fellas were looking fine.

Grew closer to what you cared for.
Let go of what you didn't, and settled that score.

The excitement you cannot resist.
The seniors would be missed.

But then it was our time to shine.
The graduating class of 2009.

Senior nights made you want to cry, admit it.
Then Senioritus bit.

Every day, minute and second was being counted.
Couldn't pay attention to what the teacher just said.

Got our caps and gowns at Senior Breakfast.
It wasn't just a test.

Some were red, and some were blue.
Real, honest, and true.

Savored every moment we could.
Took as many pictures the camera would.

Bought a ticket for prom
And kissed dad and mom.

We grew up before all their eyes.
The sun will set, and darkness will fill the sky.

Besset will give us our diploma, and we'll shake hands,
You can hear your family from the stands.

Turn the tassel the other way.
We will see each other again some day.

About
I think I started taking writing seriously when I was 13. I go through periods in my life where I write a lot and become inspired easily, but I also go through times when my creative juices do not see.. more..
