![]() the Monkey TreeA Poem by Cherrie![]() For six months Peyton wanted to catch the monkey she could see out our front window. Finally I looked outside long-enough and found her monkey! It was a limb. It looks like a monkey peeking around.![]()
“I hate that monkey in that tree! He will never come down and play with me. He sits there high upon a limb, and tail and head is all I see of him. Papa go and get that monkey from up high and then all of you he can meet. “
“Peyton dear I do not see a silly monkey in that tree.”
“Oh that monkey makes me mad I see him plain from where I set; but then again when I’m outside that mean old monkey he does hide. Grandma look and you will see that little monkey that hides from me.”
“Peyton, child I do not see a little monkey in that tree.”
“Daddy, come and sit right here and look with me as a plan comes clear. I want that monkey behind the limb. Daddy please go and catch him.”
“You silly thing don’t you know where we live monkey’s don’t grow. Maybe a possum or maybe a squirrel but Peyton Marie, I am certain that what you say cannot be. So stop talking about that tree.”
“I want that monkey! I see him so but as I run outside he must go!”
With stomping feet and a tiny tear our little Peyton runs from here and with coffee in hand grandma sits and stares. “Well bless my soul it cannot be I spy a monkey of a limb in that tree.”
