Why fight fire with fire?

Why fight fire with fire?
Protest, car smashing, breaking windows and death threats. A country being divided and a civil war brewing. People who once talked about peace are now forming a militia to go against the others. I am wondering why and how. Why are we the people fighting fire with fire? How did people who once have the right idea to come at this peacefully are now wanting fights? How can they not tell the violence that they are creating are just making it worst? Why do they insist on what they are doing is right? Don't fight fire with fire because you're just going to end up burning us all down with you.
