A Poem by J. Tyler Harris

Men go marching, cannons boom
Shirtwastes made on a burning loom
General stores, Bob Dylan's dream
Sex and drugs on the silver screen
Lies, scandals, Wall Street stocks
Housewives and children, doors locked
Confessions of the average sinner
The national debt keeps gettin' bigger
Winter comes and summers shines
Socialites taste expensive wines
Hotels and bars the community pool
You don't have to work we'll pay for school
The Old Union men striking again
Teenagers trying to fit in
Money madness, 1929
Donate your change your nickels and dimes
Running forward running fast
Don't look back you can't repeat the past

Lines of cars, constitution zone
Skipping rocks and rolling stones
Bronze and brass, beatnik jazz
Come one come all, play or pass
Dust bowl blows, sun it shines
Vietnam rain, get back in line
What ever happened to Roanoke
Tune in, drop out, have a smoke
Red coat blood, scientific grant
American graffiti, buy war stamps
Interment camps, out on bond
Get a new tv and turn it on
Children now don't wonder too far
You Save up, you get a cool car
Immigration, 1492
Indians were here way before you
Running forward running fast
Don't look back you can't repeat the past
