Heat

Heat

A Poem by ChloMatkin

I’ve stared the devil in the face.

I wake up; he’s on my chest.

I feel his touch, burning my skin -

My innocence taken, by his piercing stare.

His mere presence years ago,

Tainted my perception of the world forever more.

I see through lies, have no understanding of allies.

I fight a war on two fronts -

One inside, one out.

The wounds are not plain to see,

But run their course of inevitability.

I’ve danced with the devil,

In Hell we remain.

He takes pleasure in the pain,

I’m surrounded by the flame.
