Wings Begin To Take Flight Once More

a poem by Chris T.

When the tangle in my mind finally begins to unravel

And the chaos is silenced with a calm clarity.

When the faith in myself  hasn’t run ahead of the faith in my God

And the dirt of the path is felt by the soles of my feet.

Wings begin to take flight once more.

Then I begin to spread out forgiveness

And all those who’ve wronged me are covered by my loving quilt.

The bridges I’ve burned are constructed again

And any who wishes to cross will be met in the middle.

Wings begin to take flight once more.

Now I’ll give and give ’til my pockets are empty

And my worth is not measured by balances and ledgers.

Now I’ll reach out my hand to pick a soul up

And not ask for my equal share.

Wings begin to take flight once more.

If elderly people reach out their frail hands

And mine is there to comfort and guide.

If experience in them strikes up a story

And my caring ears are willing to listen.

Wings begin to take flight once more.

When I pray for the leaders of city and state

And ask for God’s guidance in running our land.

When I’m willing to get involved in the business of civics

And my leadership outweighs my thirst for riches.

Wings begin to take flight once more.

This morning I was meditating on the bible verse: Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”. I was compelled to reflect on how selfish we can be with our lives; our service. We get so caught up in the building of our own little kingdoms we forget our fellow-man and country. Serving God and others is tiring and is a dedicated effort to keep it as a lifestyle. But, God promises us that he will renew our strength, make us to soar like eagles and not grow weary. Let us all tap into His promise and get out there and serve Him and others.
Enjoy the poem.
