Beautiful Lie

Beautiful Lie

A Poem by Anne’sRants

Sometimes I wonder
Did you let me go
because I doubted
you were ever holding on?
I doubted the security
in your arms
Or if I fell
You wouldn't catch me
I believed whispered
"I Love You"'s
were beautiful lies
of those still asleep
I believed in the distance
hiding behind your eyes
that beheld all
That you had made
I believed that
When you said
"It was good"
That too was a lie
Instead I saw
disappointment
in the flat line of your mouth
and empty voice
In words echoed
meaningless
into the void.
To convince me of what?
My empty arms?
Or maybe of
the deafening silence
that answered my own
To ask me
What did I fear more,
The poet
or the sword?
