I Am Me

I Am Me

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg

I AM ME

I am confined within myself,

Never to be free,

Like a clown who helps us laugh,

Sadly, me; just me;

I could have been a physician,

Patching up the sick;

Or, maybe, a mysterious magician,

Playing a mystical trick,

But I am only a writer of poems;

Bad, at my best;

Not like an operator, on the phones,

Answering each request;

Yet, I do what I feel I should;

Why I cannot see;

I guess, it's not important to be good,

As long as I am me.

I love this, but I don't really agree. I think being you is never something to apologize for, or feel sad about. The world would definitely be a little dimmer if there wasn't a poet like you, writing and reviewing. I've only read two of your poems so far, but I don't think you're bad. In fact, I think they're great. This is fantastic. :D

I liked the message behind this piece. Indeed, we could not be anyone else but us. We could excel in our own chosen field anyway. Great write!

It is important to be you. No one would ever know the beautiful words from your heart that you write. Keep following your dream!
