My Own Shoes

My Own Shoes

A Poem by J Wright
"

Just a poem I wrote for one of my classes. I hope you like it.

"
I cannot be the person that you wish I could be,
My ability is not to be spent carrying your workload.
What I cannot seem to comprehend is how you don't see,
That eventually, the time will come for me to follow my own road.

It pains me to realize that after all these years,
hoping that you had my back...wasn't worth the tears.
I've done so much to keep you sated,
Why can you not see how much I am hated?

It's not because of school or society,
It's only because of how much you hated me,
Commandeering me like a puppet on a string
When I truly believed you would allow me under your wing.

So this is me, finally standing up for myself.
and giving you the heads-up that I am out.
Truthfully, I believe that I have pent up all of my fear,
But my time to stand up is finally here.

Maybe finally, I can bring you to see,
That the shoes I am trying to fill belong to me.
