Sweet refrain

Sweet refrain

A Poem by Billy

In twilight's hush, where shadows play,
Echoes of heartache linger then fade away.
Whispers of what could have been remain,
A bittersweet refrain for love in vain.

Stars above in distant hum,
A lonely serenade for love undone.
Memories of laughter, now but a sigh,
A ghostly presence that haunts the sky.

In fading light, I search for peace,
A respite from longing, a world to cease.
The echoes whisper to let go, move on,
But heart and memory, linger, strong.

Time, a thief in silence, steals the pain,
Yet memories linger, like autumn's rain.
In dreams, I see your face so bright,
A fleeting solace, in the dark of night.

The echoes whisper, 'you were loved',
A bittersweet reminder, sent from above.
In fading light, I'll hold on tight,
To the love we had, in the fading light.

Perhaps in shadows, I'll find my way,
Through labyrinths of heartache, night and day.
The city's whispers, a stranger's face,
A world moving forward, in a busy place.

In this anonymity, I'll find reprieve,
A chance to rediscover, and breathe.
The echoes still linger, but softly fade,
As I step into the unknown, unafraid.

In moonlit streets, where city lights collide,
I'll find my footsteps, side by side,
With strangers' stories, and unfamiliar sounds,
A world of possibilities, beyond heartache's bounds.

The city's pulse, a rhythm to my soul,
A melody of hope, to make me whole.
The echoes of love, now distant and faint,
As I weave through crowds, and find my own refrain.

I really admire your writing!
I feel the pain in my heart from the beginning of the poem. Your words are really incredible!
Isn't that the worst part; the possibility of what could happen is gone... and I don't know how you could have explained it better. Shadows, echoes and whispers... perfect.
A poem that is left unfinished and drowned in the thought of "what would have happened if we were together?". Searching for her in the streets she probably never walked through, finding her in the songs she never listened to, mistaking the people she never saw for her, and continuing your life with your half-finished heart. I really don't think this could be explained any better. This is definitely a masterpiece. I meant it.
I think you are a very special poet and your words made me feel a pain that I have not experienced yet, right down to my bones.and since i don't feel that right now, it brings to mind a bunch of songs and movie stories. i totally get that feeling and i've experienced it with your words.
I applaud you standing up. Your words definitely satisfy my soul in a poetic sense.

"Perhaps in shadows, I'll find my way,

You've woven an emotional and quiet touching time. Whether true or not - it hits home and makes a reader pause and wonder or remember how it can be. There are some stanzas that stand out too, cleverly created,

'Stars above in distant hum,
A lonely serenade for love undone.
Memories of laughter, now but a sigh,
A ghostly presence that haunts the sky.'

'In this anonymity, I'll find reprieve,
A chance to rediscover, to slowly breathe.
The echoes still linger, but softly fade,
As I step into the unknown, unafraid.'
