the dirt the glass

the dirt the glass

A Poem by Daniel Atkinson

say, hey,
there's a world out there, kid,
and it's just full of
the bad the good the weird and ugly
you gotta see it,
you just gotta feel it
take it in your hands
roll it around squeeze it shake it
till it settles between the ridges in your fingers
and then let it stay.
let it bake in the sun,
bind and crack.

it's yours now, ya see?
but it's filled the canyons in your skin
smoothed them over
your mark is gone
the dirt
the glass
the dust won't tell of you
the world is gone, is you

what is there left to touch?
