down suzanne lane

A Poem by Daniel Atkinson
"

a look at a peaceful neighborhood.

"
it's a neighborhood in limbo--
never quite awake,
but never quite asleep.
sometimes you can't see
the sky for the trees
(those magnolia trees),
but when you've seen one sky,
you've seen them all.

cars pass by
now and again,
and the kids pick up their
baseball bats,
skateboards,
pogo sticks
(dreams),
and move to the lawn
so their toys
don't become part of the pavement.

here in this land of serenity,
this evanescent fiction,
we can become our own legend.

Author's Note

Daniel Atkinson
This is a street I lived on for a couple years. The kids in the second stanza are me and the neighborhood children (I was the pogo stick champion). I wish I could move back.
