A New Writers Struggle

A New Writers Struggle

A Poem by Constance Payne
"

When I attempt to force the words I get crap, when I get the words I have no way to record them....

"

A New Writers Struggle

It is hard to write
In the dead of the night
When happiness hides
From your heart

When the light of the day
Does not take it away
The fear you feel
From the Start

Life’s little game
mixing happy and sad
never knowing just which it will be
I look in the mirror
Hoping to find
A beauty
Yet there is only me

A grouchy old shrew
Angry inside
At the hand dealt
I now have to play

Just sit at my desk
More like the rest
And wonder
WTF each new day

It is hard to write
In the dark of the night
When the doubts
Just surround me all day.

I'm amazed at how easy some days the writing flows. And another day all I can write is little doodles on the page. I've often imagined there is another part of me that lives in it's own little world and only sometimes comes to me when I want to write. My biggest gripe? Being in bed after struggling to write and having what seems at the time to be great ideas! Dang it! I think your poem catches that frustration! Thanks for sharing it.

Your rhyme and metre is quite accomplished, kudos for that. The melancholic feelings you express are the natural palette for the poet. Poetry springs from the divide between our physical and spiritual natures, that sadness that the physical can never quite bridge that divide to our spiritual aspirations. Your frustration is the frustration of us all.

I totally feel ya! I used to be able to write almost all the time til I grew a family and marriage life, it became difficult to come to the mind and trying to write!
