A World Apart

A World Apart

A Poem by Coral Skye
"

A poem to describe the loneliness of separation, or not having met someone to love yet.

"

There is a distance between us

That is neither too great nor too small

So why is it then, that I feel it is much too great

And certainly not small enough

Especially when there are more days than I can count

Where I feel as if I could start walking

And that I would do so without end

Even if in doing so it would only bring me

Barely a fraction of that insufferable distance closer to you

I open the door to the recesses of my mind and I’m there

Right there next to you in less then a heartbeat

And oh it’s such a wonderfully indescribable sensation

But if I open my eyes the door manages to lock itself tightly

Shutting me out of my fantasy where we finally meet

Leaving me with a memory of a nonexistent memory

And this leaves me with the distance between us

That is neither too great nor too small

Except to me it feels as if

You are an entire world away

I wrote this poem back in March of this year when I felt as if I would never be together with anybody. Not too long after I met the most wonderful person, who I am now happily in love with.
