The Compass

The Compass

A Poem by Corset

I was there with you when he joined the water
I was there with you when he joined the fire
I will be there with you when he gathers to the ash
I will be there when we join in the air
you are my sun , it is true, you govern my days
and into the eve my moon as well
you converse through all nights without which light
I would be forever lost from wandering,
if only in my mind,
You are constant and true and you are my compass,
but there seems no path that returns me to you
that has or has not been forged by your hand.

Seems influence comes into play so vividly and indelibly throughout this extraordinary weave of words. You near subtly cover time, jot by jot, emotion by emotion.. that single person being the Everything influential..not puppeteer or manipulator but certainly over.seer of your thoughts and actions. A cloud pon your periphere that you need but perhaps, just might prefer weaker?

Grand writing, interesting to say the least because its emotions are so very personal, factually or otherwise.. reviewers are apt to mix the Personal with the Imagination!

The protagonist is indeed smitten and so much so in this piece as she excitedly recaps the journey and realises she has been in his hands all the time.

I like that you used the word Protagonist :P
Thank you!
i was reading it both ways, as Dale described, as well.
I could see emily D. writing this about those male poets she admired so much...
she saw them as gods in a way...and fantasized on being with them in this life or some life.
the influence can be so strong.

I can see this poem in a couple different ways... taking bout the one who holds your heart or the holy one. Either way they are both beautiful sentiments.

Thank you RRC, I love this reflection
very interesting ...strong with the use of the sun and moon (would you consider using "converge" instead of "converse" in L7) ...just a thought ;) when the title plays an important role in the poem i think it is always that much more profound ... like this one ... what impresses me more is the admission ..or confession...or realization ... all three maybe .. that a far greater hand is on your protagonist's life than their own .. i think it is huge in life .. to see the thread of purpose running throughout pain and joy .. victory and defeat .. its so easy to confuse the positive with the all encompassing "compass" ... your poem moved me to a deeper place this morning .. and to gratitude :)
