If I Had Some Vodka, I'd Pour it Straight

A Poem by Kelly A. Brown

If I Had Some Vodka, I’d Pour it Straight

~

I'm not moving anywhere
Like you are with your honorary recognitions and
Certificates and suits and 3.85 GPAs

60,000 dollars in debt and all I got was
Seeing a girl in tight pants with a plastic straw hanging out of her mouth as she
Spoke
Thinking she was cool.

She drinks for pleasure at parties.

I wish I had some vodka.
If I did, I'd pour it straight
For some reason, I enjoy the burn more than
Sugar.

I'm stagnant
Maybe I am even regressing
The more I dream, the more I stay the same.

You came from nothing and made something.
I came from everything and made nothing.

If I had some vodka,
I'd pour it straight
And sing the sweet music of
Failure.

Downbeat and sarcastic with raw intent, I might add. Sure wish I could down some Vodka with you.
