Bar Scene

Bar Scene

A Poem by Kelly A. Brown

In the Celtic Cottage,

a bar for old Irish men, but now

it's college night.

St. Patrick's day.

Looking around me, I see smiles

and laughter and peace

People overtaken by the night giggles

all of them drunk on

togetherness

On unity

On belonging

On the free shots

On America.

On love.

It bewilders me that once they all

go home, they'll stop smiling so bright and

will likely cease their gleeful

yelling over the loud music.

Most of them will go back to being

quiet and somber and nervous about the

deadlines

and go back to their

long Tuesday workday, waiting for the

night to come

back

and whisk them away to

paradise.
