New

A Poem by Kelly A. Brown

Where are all the tambourine mans?

Where is the passion, the calm before the

storm

the raging waters

pattering toward

ecstasy with fiery eyes?

Where are all the nighttime riders of

the wonder years, when the world was

stealing beauty

from the Gods?

Where are all the wise men who

slept on sandy beaches and praised the midnight sky solely

for being the midnight sky?

Where has it all gone away to sleep

the zest

the love

the night

the mist beyond the waterfall

the first colored leaves in autumn

the simple wonderment of building a snowman

in November?

The sound of music, of poetry, of lyric, of song

while we're wandering in the

wind?

Where are all the Mozarts

the Brahms

the Einsteins

the Dylans

the Washingtons?

What is the new

memory?

What is the new

time?

What is the new

diamond in the ruff?

What is the new

very first pang of

lust when she holds your

untouched hand

in just the right

way.

What is the new

America?

What is the new

God?

What is the new

Life?
