Troy

Troy

A Poem by G. Anderson

The King of Troy,

     His eyes so blue,

          Looks upon his burning city.

He's devastated,

     His hands' own fruit

          Disintegrating to nothing.

There's nowhere to turn,

     Everything shall burn...

          He's losing his mind.

His hair turned white,

     His people trampled and snapped.

Nothing is left to love but ashes.

His skin is pale,

     His rheumy hands shaky.

It's as if nothing was there.

So his searching eyes,

     Go after a lost cause.

His son, his life, his love no more.

Tears glide sadly down.

     Their majesty earth-bound.

          Evaporating in this doleful Hell.

He's speechless, blank,

     His mind cannot grasp.

          A dark cloud blankets him.

So all is lost,

     Hope bent and broken.

          Dreams impaired, no loving token.

He turns and cries,

     Watching his city's demise.

          The Gods do nothing anymore.

The King spins.

     Smothered by pain.

          And is shot in disdain.

No remnant of Troy,

     No lingering, living trace.

         His legend and grace, gone.

My King is gone.

     My Troy is gone.

          Burned to the ground.

               And the Gods do nothing.

What a beautiful and deeply emotional piece. You capture the sorrow and tragedy perfectly. I love how you personalized this, the pain and despair of such destruction is only realized once you apply it to a person. I also love how you threw in the last stanza, making the whole thing into an even bigger picture. Awesome write:)
