Broken into a Better Shape.

Broken into a Better Shape.

A Poem by G. Anderson
"

Trying to open up and trust another with my heart, you see.

"
This hurt,
all caged up and scared within me.
It's like a
canyon in the plains of my skin.
The flesh is ragged and raked through,
barely covering the splintered bone beneath.

You wish to splint it,
and heal it,
and fix me.

You wish to warm me with your breath,
and paint little roses in my cheeks.

I know it will hurt like hell if I let you splint it,
for it was certainly not a clean break...

I flinch when you move to touch it,
and scream not out of pain, for it's numb,

but out of fear that you'll hurt it too.

I just keep in mind that it has to be broken
and bent into a better shape.

So brutal and descriptive... it made me shudder reading this... so much pain within a broken limb that can be transferred to other pains that human share. This is such a creative, disturbingly vivid way to describe someone breaking in to repair it into better shape. Beautifully grotesque imagery and wonderfully written. You have a gift.

That's right we can't heal on our own. We have to open up and share with the right people to validate our pains and begin to heal. It's the start of better days ahead. I love the image of the canyons in the plains of my skin.
