As If

As If

A Poem by G. Anderson

As if you really loved me.

Hold me, as if you never left me.

And I'll act as if nothing even happened.

There's nothing more I can do in my power.

I've lost you, for you let me walk away.

I suppose you were meant to be lost,

if you treated me like I was already gone.

Tell me you miss me, don't give up.

But you already have, you see...

My mind has already started to cast away

these happy and hurtful memories.

You're already buried underneath mounds of pressure and

choked and forced out lies of "I'm fine," "I'm okay."

It's taken all I have to dig this up, and show you.

That I treat you as if you were still mine.

My heart's care still gently stroking the side of your face,

feeling your hard chest pressed against my collar bone

with the desire as you had me, again and again.

My arms are still open as if you were reaching to embrace me once more.

But you're gone, and I accept that.

Just know I'll always remember you as if I was in love with you.
