Suicide Wins

Suicide Wins

A Poem by Allen Douglas
"

My friend lost his battle with depression. I tried to help him.

"

Tired and faded Friend

Sagging skin and spirit dull

Your heart and lungs burden

The bones beneath show

Your eyes are wide and worried

Dimming light while candles fail

Patient Darkness stalks steady

Seducing mourners well

Hideous act and plow blade

Dismember body and soul

Planted pain like grass seed

In concrete cracks it grows

We huddle ‘round empty

We hold in hand what’s left

It slips between my fingers

It slips away like breath

Boldly I begged exhausted

Inabilities exposed

Love and Honor follows now

Peaceful resting soul
