Time Will Heal All Wounds

I've given up asking.

People say that time heals all wounds.

I do not believe them.

 

Time simply numbs the aching,

making it so that you do not lose your mind

on a nightly basis.

 

People say that laughter is the best medicine.

I do not think that is true.

 

Laughing with a broken heart,

just reminds me how damaged I am

inside and out.

 

People say that scars are a sign of survival.

I choose to disagree.

 

Scars remind me that I was weak,

looking for a cheap way out and only caring

for myself.

 

People say that it all gets better.

But people say a lot of things, don't they?

I have to agree with you to a certain degree. Time heals all wounds but they don't mention how long that takes. There's a lot of truth here but lessons learned are the most important theme that lies underneath it all. Sometimes the lesson is simply "life sucks." Another is "I'll keep my eyes open wider next time." And another is that people die. As for Scars, believe it or not, they are like a trophy to some people. Weird but true. Good poem.
