Somewhere Tropical

Somewhere Tropical

A Poem by C.I. Cofield

I dream about a distant shore
A cool drink in my hand
The sun is bright and warming as I lay upon the sand
I can almost see the fishes swim
In water crystal blue
But realize it's not as good if i'm not here with you.
And so I open up my eyes,
Though not reluctantly,
To find your eyes are open and you're looking back at me.
"Sweet dreams?" you ask me softly with a smile upon your face
"Not without you." I reply "It's just an empty space."
"Then would you like to take a trip?" you ask and I'm surprised
But I can see the mischief hiding in your youthful eyes.
"Where would we go?" I ask of you, guessing what you'll say.
"Somewhere tropical and warm is where I'd like to stay."
I'm touched that you remembered, quite unexpectedly
I smile at you and ask, "Would you do all that for me?"
"Of course my dear I'd love to go, I'd take you anywhere
It doesn't matter where we land as long as you are there."
I smile and kiss you gently looking in your loving eyes,
"You're so much more than I deserve." I say while trying not to cry.
You reach over, sleeve in hand to wipe away the tears,
"I don't know what I've done to get to keep you all these years."
I melt into your loving arms as your gesture warms my heart.
The tears are thus forgotten as if they never got to start.
"You've only ever loved me, that's all I need to stay,
if that never changes then i'll never go away.
Now let's sleep until the morn we have a lot to do,
I am excited for this trip to a far-off beach with you."
I know that I am lucky to have you as my friend
To love and hold and cherish you until the very end.
"I'm so lucky that I have you." I say drifting off to sleep
You whisper in the darkness, "No, the lucky one is me."

I'm a stay at home mom, I've always liked to write but never wrote anything worth reading. I hated english and writing in school so my grammar is probably horrifying to an experienced writer lol. But .. more..
