I Forget

I Forget

A Poem by CrimsonHints

I forget about the stars we saw in the fields of Indiana,

And our golden laughter bellowing from inside our chests.

I don’t remember our nights in dark parking lots;

Fourth of July parties fade out with the rest.

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

I am not whole in my mind as my shadow lengthens,

With my eyes turning red as I rip flesh from bone.

I feel the pulsating rhythm of a heart gone cold.

I see you struggle with the thought of leaving a dead man alone.

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

I forget about the times you lay pallid and weak;

How I held your fragile body close to my side.

I don’t remember when we got drunk on Lady Liberty,

Or when we joked about who would live and who would die.

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

You’ll believe in the devil when I smile through skin.

I can’t feel anything but the hate in my veins.

The dead whisper to me as I walk with their sins,

Only the darkest parts of me still remain.

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""-

I forget about the magic I’ve witnessed in my youth.

I forget about the wisdom learned in my later years.

My footsteps run solely on an animalistic hate.

I inhale the sweet screams people give in fear.

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

Run from me because I’ve forgotten who we are.

Stay away from this hooded reaper you call friend.

When my eyes glaze over and I start to fade,

There’s only one way this can end.
