A prayer

A prayer

A Poem by K.M.C.
"

my very first English poem

"

Once, I knelt down and prayed,

With the candles lit, and the altar laid.

Lilith O’ mighty queen;

O’ goddess of love and death!

My life, my lady is without a taste

And days go by, and years are waste.

Oh mighty queen, I wish for love.

My heart is rotten, black, and dead,

And only love can turn it red.

In life, many fears I’ve known,

But fear to lose my love, I need.

For this I pray, o’ please receive.

Amen, my queen in you I believe.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

As I leaned to blow the light,

From the smoke she came, her eyes so bright.

I bowed down and kissed her feet,

O’ my lady, you will give me what I need?

She stared at me with saddened eyes,

She spoke: “My son, you aren’t wise,

For love might be so sweet to taste,

In the sweetness death resides.

I know of her, the one you love,

A queen among women, she can be,

But my son you will go blind,

And your eyes, only her will see,

When you are with her your heart will fly,

But if she leaves, you’ll fall, you’ll cry.

My son, love is not a game,

For if you lose the cost is life.”

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

With a smile, I said, oh this game you play?

Forgive my lady, what I will say.

Didn’t you fight before for love?

And for it you left the heavens above?

Didn’t you get cursed for love?

But by his side you’ll always stay!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

She smiled, she laughed, and she shed a tear,

She said “then we must make a deal.

Your heart, with her will always be,

Other than her no others you’ll see,

One day without her you cannot live,

If she cries yourself you cannot forgive,

But if this love one day shall end,

Your life is mine to keep, to spend.”

……………………………………………………………………………………………………

With my own blood, the deal I marked,

She walked away, but then she backed.

She spoke with a tone like a knife thrust

In my daughters, you should never trust.”
