A School Shooting

A School Shooting

A Poem by Crystal

The people you know
either don't talk to you
or mock you
for all your differences.
You dress a different way,
you listen to a different kind of music,
or you talk about different topics.
You are different
and humans are scared of difference.

As you are mocked and teased,
you don't know how to respond.
A deep anger builds up inside of you
but you have no outlet.

You go back to your home,
back to your room
where you can be alone with your thoughts.
A plan formulates.
A plan to get your own back.
A plan where you are no longer the victim.

As you arrive at school,
your long suppressed anger
is boiling over.

The deafening crack,
another one
and another.
Each one making you feel more alive,
spurring you on.
Your gunshots turn the tables once and for all,
you are in control
and they are the victim.

You know you won't get out of this,
the authorities that have always been against you
will never understand.
So you turn
your weapon of destruction
against yourself.
You smile.
You have done all you needed to do.
You are at peace.

A deafening crack.
You fall to the ground.
That smile never fading.

I know this is an older poem and I doubt your still on this site now, But this poem is very powerful, and sadly its timeless, with all the school shootings that go on now a days that have only gotten worse and worse. Your words hold a lot of power and sadness for the death of so many young people who have died way too soon by people who care more about guns than they do about the children. Fantastic poem
