We need a new girl

We need a new girl

A Poem by Wild Rose

Sarah left last Friday

We need a new girl

I'll give the employment agency

The agency requested details

Age; wage; hours; experience; and such

Girl comes in the workshop

"Hi I'm Jo from the employment"

Hello Jo from the employment

How can I help you

Are you looking for a present or for yourself

"No can I start again?

My name is Jo

And the employment sent me

I'm looking for a job

Sarah told me you had one"

So Sarah told you did she

She left on Friday

To look after her kids

What did she say?

"You were good to work for

Would adjust my hours

I have to do as I'm told

And give no cheek"

If we say yes

And give you a trial

Who will see to your kids

What hours can you work

A neighbour will see them to school

And pick them up after with hers

She doesn't want paying

Don't trust them with my mum

Ok - Monday and Friday Half past eight until midday

All the rest Half past eight

Go home in time to pick the kids up

You pass the school on your way

Give your neighbour a bit of a rest

Start tomorrow

Bring your lunch and a mug

She's the boss you work for her

Even tho this is formatted like poetry, it feels like prose. Just to offer a contrast in cultures, possibly . . . here in the USA, an interviewer would risk a lawsuit if asking anything about motherhood issues during a job interview, as it’s considered discrimination. You’re lucky things worked out well, despite your politically incorrect way of trying to be an accommodating boss! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie
