Mutualism

Mutualism

A Poem by D.

You soaked me in gasoline and lit the match at my feet,
But they sacrificed their form and tried to snuff all flammability:
A bag of sand - as an axe through a tree, but a heart attack mid-swing.

"You are everything I see that's beautiful in this world."
But the ember is slowly burning to a crisp ash in the cold.
Smoke billows out and the logs are still touching my soles.

"You have so much light in you, I'm serious."
All things considered, I'd never think of what we had as deleterious.
Never saw you as being nefarious, you only tried showing me how meritorious I've become.

It seems our mutual relationship to show the other their worth and show support.
I owe you so much, and I'm sorry if we ever lose that initial spark that ignited the inferno in the first.
