Fears of Dying

Fears of Dying

A Poem by LJ
"

Reflection of a mans life on his death bed

"
He lies in his hospital bed, tears streaming from his eyes,
Breathing through a ventilator, no longer hiding behind his disguise,
Veered as a strong man, doesn't want others to think otherwise,
Body wearing down rapidly, not ready to say his goodbyes,
The love that was lost,
Where he paid a heavy cost,
Left him in a state of being alone,
Always away from home,
Traveling the world to find out where he belonged,
Only later realizing he was gone for too long,
Children he never knew or was able to watch grow,
The pain that he feels certainly shows,
No one by his side before he takes that final ride,
Hoping that the light will be his guide ,
With the sadness he can no longer hide. He closes his eyes, final breath slips away.....
Where his eternity is spent, only the Lord knows rather if it's a peaceful stay.

It's good, a rumination on not only the inevitability of death but also a dying mans what ifs and regrets. The short story type format is a mistake in my opinion, it's fairly jarring to me.

Still, there's definitely potential, just edit it into a slightly more traditional format and it would be greatly improved.
