Tell Me Something True

Tell Me Something True

A Poem by DC Gentleman
"

A minute of deep reflection

"

Who are you…?

I ask..
Rather
I demanded a reply
Your face
I do not recognize
As we stand eye to eye

The silence was deafening
Who are you..?
I implore
Why have you come?
In those eyes
I saw an evil
Like the Devil’s son
I also saw a shame
Some pain
And a hint of light
Then something familiar
Personal
But not quite right

Eyes like mine
But not really
Or maybe
I’m not seeing clearly
Tears were forming
My heart was racing
Finger tracing the contours
Of my own face

Who are you…?

I ask
In something lower than a whisper
Looking into the mirror
Quietly pleading
Please tell me something true
I need to know why you’re here

Unable to face
That face
I close my eyes
Looking deep inside
Wishing to be someone new
I’m not content to live a lie

To thine own self be true”

Great Poem.

This is seeing behind the mask. There might be so much things which are displeasing to the senses in moments of revelation but, the attempt to peek within is such a courageous act. A great read.
