The Rain Pours

The Rain Pours

A Poem by Pasquale Lorina

The Clouds fill the sky like soiled cotton

A great fog seizes the ceiling above us

Ominous like the thief in the night, the sky is gone

Drops of water begin to fall, ladies walking cover their heads

From the heavens the lord begins to cry

Waters like razors comes storming down

The sidewalk and earth becomes overwhelmed with the crushing of the water

Banging like nails into a tree, the rain comes jetting down

Splashes and puddles fill the city streets

The young flowers in bloom get battered and bludgeoned

Earthworms begin to emerge from the soaked soil

A birdbath overflows in haste

Rain is here that notorious beast

It gives life, like milk to a baby

The violent pouring feeds the garden that grows

We yearn for it yet we curse it
