The Last Gift

The Last Gift

A Poem by Pasquale Lorina

If I was told today that I would die at dusk

There is one final gift I would want the world to have

I would want to plant a garden for the entire world to see

With colors so bright and happy without envy or strife

All the flowers of life that bloom from the nourishment of the earth

The pedals that spring from the drops of the rain

The sun that beats down and warms the soil

Plentiful would be the ground, in which life will spring

From the roots to the buds, God’s grace will fulfill

A garden full in bloom with life and endurance to live till the falls chill

As those gaze upon this lovely site, who planted this plot of earth will be asked

He who now rest’s under the green grass and roses

Let the Roses intoxicate the air with sweet delight

Flowers bursting with vibrancy and tone

This garden of beauty was his last endow let it be known

A beautiful thought. Humans are mortals. But, if we can leave even a tiny mark to be remembered, that will keep us alive, somewhere.

I like the idea that he wants to leave something when he dies. I feel the same way and is a big reason I write. To give people something when I'm gone.
