Sunday ~ Brunch ~ Naybor's Cafe

Jill: “Ever wish you could read people’s minds?”

Jack: “Yeah, it could make me crazy rich.”

Jill: “And crazy miserable.”

Jack: “Why, because I’d hear things I wouldn’t like?”

.   .   .

Jill“Yes.”

Jack: “Things that would hurt me?”

Jill: “Of course. Minds are ruthless.”

Jack: “Yeah, but I’d be rich. Imagine reading Warren Buffett's mind!”

.   .   .

Jill: “Would you rather be miserable-rich, or happy-poor?”

Jack rubs his chin and gazes upward.

Jill“ … Jack?”

Jack: “I’m thinking!”

The hidden nuance that I love the best about this little ditty is how there's a heavy sense of obligation that this guy must make the right choice, the civilized choice, but instead he's leaning toward the unpopular choice. We're all miserable. Why not be rich & miserable? (((HUGS)))

Not sure if this is a comedy or tragedy - are the given choices cues? Whichever, there is mystery for sure, tongue in cheek humour plus, a hint of kitchen sink drama or am I just mind.reading. Twelve lines to make good theatre memorable - clever.

More Jack and Jill. Those names go together so well don't they,? Happy poor is preferable to miserable rich any day. Money can't buy love (said the Beatles and many others). Mind reading? Now there's a thought, zooming in to what should remain private, could certainly be entertaining:) Happy Monday Dylan, what's left of it.
