Speechless

Speechless

A Poem by Sarah Jane

Seven thousand and seventeen spoken languages

And I cannot string along enough solid words

To appropriately explain exactly how I feel

But I still write in my mother tongue

Hoping to convey some emotion

That you can empathize with

Something that you can

Hold between your

Own two hands

And believe.

As is if you

Could.

I didn't even think there were so many languages . . . so that first line stopped me in my tracks as I tried to ponder how large a number of languages this would be! Once I got off that distraction, then I dived into the rest of your poem, which I love as an expression of how we can be so utterly unable to communicate something important, even tho that's what we seemingly do effortlessly at other times! I also love how your message seems to swerve toward the end toward the impossibility of being understood, almost begging to be heard, moving beyond the inability to express oneself! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Was thoughtful to use font to make this look "Nonet" style. Interesting content as well.

The written word, particularly poetry, is the remedy when we're speechless. That's evident here, Sarah Jane. Even when words won't flow between our lips, our hearts seem to connect with our fingers, and good poetry is the result. I applaud not only your words but your creative presentation.
