Winter Butterflies

Winter Butterflies

A Poem by Sarah Jane

With a crisp wind at her back
Blowing over dead icy springs
The frigid breath of existence in her ear
She spreads her wings

Despite the hostility of the bare trees
The silent shoulder from the birds
Wiping her brow, she pushes on her way
Ignoring the minds empty words

Broken from her imprisonment
A life seeming too inhumane
The venom seeping from the wound of the world
Slowly but surely begins to wane

This frozen moment in this bleak reality
She is free for a blink of an eye
Leaving all her weighted worries in the breeze
Flies away this sweet sweet butterfly
